Acrylic (I) Plant
Acrylic fibers are produced from a synthetic polymer called acrylonitrile, a petrochemical substance. Given their low breathability, acrylic fibers are often used in products that require heat-retention properties, such as sportswear, machine-made carpets, winter clothing, and blankets.
Currently, Polyacryl Iran is the sole producer of acrylic fibers within the country, with an annual production capacity of approximately 60,000 tons, meeting a significant portion of the domestic market demand. Acrylic fibers at Polyacryl Iran are produced in two factories, Acrylic (I) and Acrylic (II), using both dry and wet spinning methods.
The fibers produced in Acrylic (I) plant are manufactured using a suspension polymerization process and dry spinning technology licensed by DuPont. Acrylonitrile (AN) is the primary raw material used in the production of acrylic fibers, and other substances such as methyl acrylate (MA) or vinyl acetate (VA) are also used as comonomers. After washing and drying, the produced polymer is dissolved in a DMF solvent, resulting in a solution suitable for dry spinning. The produced fibers then undergo spinning, stretching, and cutting processes. Finally, after inspection and conformity with standards, the final product is graded and released.
The products of the Acrylic (I) plant include dry-spun acrylic carpet fibers, acrylic blanket fibers, Poly Best fibers, and industrial acrylic fibers. Poly Best fibers are used in various types of cement sheets as a substitute for asbestos, which has been banned due to its environmental hazards and carcinogenic properties.
The annual production capacity of Acrylic (I) plant is 24,000 tons. The products of this plant are divided into two main groups: staple products and specialty products, designed and marketed accordingly.
Consumers of these fibers are often spinning units. After spinning the fibers, these units use them to produce warp-weft fabrics for clothing, sheets, and bedding.
Polyester fibers produced by Iran Polyacryl Company have important properties such as high strength, good recovery and dimensional stability, abrasion resistance, resistance to sunlight, and some chemicals.
